To accompany our Laines du Nord yarns we are offering three knitting pattern books at an unbeatable price. The patterns in this book use smooth and classical luxurious yarns and they are knitted into simple shapes and pretty patterns to show the yarn off to its best. Jane has used stitch techniques such as lace, ribs, scallops and stripes to give texture and interest to the designs. There are 15 designs including wraps and a scarf, jumpers, tops, cardigans and a snuggly blanket. Although we don't stock many of the yarns why not have a go at using some substitutes and experimenting with textures to recreate the effects. Jane uses mainly DK, aran and chunky yarns, so it's easy to find alternatives from our collection including our Airedale Aran, the classic King Cole DK or luxurious Sublime DK. Extreme knitting is a stimulating and accelerated method of hand knitting using big tools to knit many strands of yarns simultaneously (up to 300 is possible, but we think up to 100 should be about right!) This creates extraordinary and often luxurious, contemporary and traditional home furnishings - rugs, throws, bath mats, curtains....whatever! What's brilliant is that the pieces can be made in hours, rather than weeks and months, and it's a great way to use up your stash - especially if you've got lots of fine yarns. Mixing so many strands together gives the opportunity to blend many colours and types of fibre in a creative and painterly way. The resulting fabric is deeply comfortable, hardwearing and totally luxurious - creating heirloom quality textiles.
