The alpaca and wool add a luxurious, soft feel, whilst still having a machine washable practicality. Wendy have designed some funky patterns for garments and accessories and because of the acrylic content the yarn won't weigh you down. |

Sulka is one of the Mirasol Collection of fairly traded yarns from Peru. It is a gorgeous chunky weight, lightly spun knitting yarn made from a luxurious combination of 60% merino wool, 20% alpaca and 20% silk in a lovely range of dark and dramatic colours. It is very soft to touch and when you look closely has other colours twisted into it to give extra depth. It should knit to most chunky patterns, but knit a tension square first or choose from the lovely patterns within the Mirasol Pattern books. Each season new colours are added as current shades are discontinued - these are marked with **. |

It is a beautiful aran weight knitting yarn spun from a gorgeous combination of 80% baby alpaca and 20% bamboo. The range of colours is small, but perfectly formed in soft, dusky tones. Knit to most aran patterns, but knit a tension square first or choose from the lovely patterns within the Mirasol Pattern books. The range of colours is designed to appeal to knitters of all ages and there are six natural un-dyed colours and 14 solid dyed colours to choose from. We don't know the exact origin of this yarn, other than it was destined for the organic range of a very well known yarn company. It's a luxurious blend of 70% merino wool and 30% fine alpaca giving a lovely handle. We believe that it has been organically grown and dyed naturally using sustainable plant dyes - hence the soft palette of muted, natural shades. The yarn is a heavy DK and this could be the problem - not a standard ply. However, a bit of tweaking of any double knitting pattern and you should be fine.
Knit on 4.5mm pins to a tension of approx 19 stitches and 23 rows to a 10cm square. |
