Here is a knitting pattern for a felted bag and purse using Texere Troon Tweed aran. The yarn is used double for the bag meaning you'll have it knitted up in no time and the little purse only uses one ball - so great, quick gifts. The transformation of the non-felted bag when you take it out of the washing machine is brilliant and the rigidity of the bag means it doesn't even need lining! All the shades of Troon are marled or tweedy, so even if you don't want stripes you could achieve a lovely textured effect with very little effort.

The Mode Collection Knitting Pattern Booklet by Wendy
This is a lovely booklet of 10 designs using Wendy Mode yarns including 4ply, Aran and Chunky. Although we only stock the chunky we loved the designs in here and you could use any aran or 4ply yarn to work up these pieces. The designers have created four chunky designs including the gorgeous cabled sweater on the colour, plus a textured fitted jacket then two simple designs using lots of garter stitch to great effect. The aran patterns move away from the traditional cables, but still have lovely texture and include a sweater, waistcoat, bolero and easy jacket. Finally there are two delicate, short sleeved tops packed with intricate stitch detail using 4ply. Everything is really wearable, but with a twist and makes a great collection. The Big Easy by Debbie Bliss
As you may have guessed from the title this is a pattern book crammed with generous shaped garments that are perfect for slouching around in at the weekend. It's the first of Debbie's books to introduce the Luxury Tweed range and also uses chunky yarns such as Como and Alpaca Silk aran. The 13 designs are texture-packed coats, jackets and cardigans, snuggly sweaters, luxurious legwarmers and the funky cape coat. With the exception of the Como designs all the other garments use standard weight aran and chunky thickness yarns. Of course we sell the Luxury Tweeds, but if you fancy an alternative there is our own Texere Chunky Pure Wool or luxurious Airedale Aran and Troon Tweed Aran. The Como is a lightly spun wool blend which Twilley's Freedom Wool is very similar to - it's not quite as luxurious, but comes in a fabulous colour range and makes a great substitute. £7.50
