Debbie Bliss Magazine Spring/Summer 2010

Debbie Bliss Magazine Spring/Summer 2010

£4.50

This is the fourth magazine by Debbie Bliss and once again she has produced a beautiful issue to get us into that springtime feel. She says, "The new Spring issue of my magazine has a personal feel to it as last year my daughter Nell and I stayed with friends on Long Island and the beautiful light, relaxed ambience and stunning views inspired the fashion feature Creme de la Creme, relaxed knits for the perfect weekend, in classic shades of cream and stone. In keeping with the coastal theme the home section Hamptons Home has nautical style throws, cushions, bunting and a great carry bag for the beach. Top Tanks features sophisticated knits which are perfect to give a touch of class to your holiday wardrobe. In contrast to the pale beauty of the East Coast we have Moroccan Sunset, a collection of knits shot in the sun drenched desert of North Africa, in my earth and people friendly organic Fairtrade yarn Eco Aran. I have also launched a finer version of the aran weight Eco Baby which is soft against a child's skin and therefore perfect for Pure and Simple, four easy knits in summery sorbet shades for toddlers. There are 35 knits, 18 new designs and some of the most popular styles from previous collections plus the regular features and new ones such as a fascinating article on knitting in Elizabethan England." Eco Aran and Eco Baby are both available from Texere as well as Debbie’s classic tweeds for sumptuous wintery knitwear.

The Yarn Book

The Yarn Book

£15.99

Penny Walsh. If you ever wanted to know what a snarl or a gimp is, what the difference between woollen and worsted spinning is or what mercerising and sizing mean then this is the book for you.
Yarns are an integral part of any work done in the field of textiles - whether it be weaving, sewing, dyeing or knitting. The ply, tensile strength, weight, elasticity, water-, heat- and shrink-resistance of yarns all have an important impact on the final result of any work.
In this book Penny Walsh explores yarns, their history, production methods, fibre content and the new advances that are constantly being made.
She also provides practical instructions for making your own threads and yarns, with detailed making sequences and helpful step-by-step illustrations.
The book is illustrated throughout with diagrams and photographs of how yarns are spun, plus images of manufacturing processes and finished yarns and fabrics. Whilst this is a very useful book for anyone wanting to spin their own yarns it is also a fascinating read and an excellent source book for anyone interested in yarns - whether buying, dyeing, weaving or knitting etc - invaluable!

Union Jack Bag Pattern

Union Jack Bag Pattern

£2.00

What better way to show your dedication to British farmers, sheep and yarns than by making a union flag bag?! The red, white and blue really says everything you need it to say, but if you fancy being more individual play around with subtle or wacky colour and texture combinations. Felting is a fun way to transform soft yarns into practical accessories by just throwing them in the washing machine! Texere Troon Tweed is spun in oil, so knits very easily and totally changes when washed. Texere Airedale Aran is softer, without flecks and felts even easier. Try combining the two for unusual textures & effects.
This pattern has two designs included - red-white-blue & Green style bags

Crocheted Bag for Life Pattern

Crocheted Bag for Life Pattern

£1.00

Bin those plastic bags and crochet your own bag that you can carry wherever you go. The bag is crocheted using a fishnet stitch that expands to hold lots of goodies and folds up into a small package that will fit in your handbag. We’ve suggested Texere C4 linen as it’s strong, available in lots of colours and is a brilliant price, although you could use any cotton, linen or bamboo type yarn. You could make a multi-coloured version for a summery beach bag.

Fantastic Collection

This is an exclusive selection of fancy yarns of various counts, textures and colours. **We have introduced some special bulk purchases at dramatically reduced prices. Order 10 assorted cones and save £9 - simply click on "mixed" and we'll put the best selection together for you.**
As the yarns are so different from each other the fibre content is a wide spectrum of viscose, polyester and acrylic blends.
The yarns are full of texture and character as there are loops, gimps, ribbons, chenilles, slubs and tasselly bits throughout!
It is impossible to give a meterage for each yarn as they are so different, but they are probably anywhere between 100m - 200m per cone.
Perfect to add drama and texture to embroidery, tassels, weaving and knitting. Two of the collection are the last few kilos of discontinued fancy BMS yarns. These are the 82% Mohair Hedgerow and the Kid Mohair and Silk blend of Cocoon - two fantastic yarns at a fraction of their original

Natural Raffia

This is a fantastic range of natural raffia in a wide range of colours as well as a natural shade which is ideal for dyeing. Use for all types of textile and craft work.
Raffia is obtained from the inner bark of the raffia palm.
Although originally thought of as a floristry and gardening material, textile artists have now discovered how well raffia can be used in their work.
It's excellent for incorporating into creative embroidery, sculpture, macrame, basket making and braid work. The 50g bundle has approx 80 strands of raffia, all being approx 120cm in length.
Of course being vegetable the natural fibres can easily be dyed with natural vegetable dyes, cold water and multi-purpose dyes.
