Debbie Bliss Magazine Spring/Summer 2010

Debbie Bliss Magazine Spring/Summer 2010

£4.50

This is the fourth magazine by Debbie Bliss and once again she has produced a beautiful issue to get us into that springtime feel. She says, "The new Spring issue of my magazine has a personal feel to it as last year my daughter Nell and I stayed with friends on Long Island and the beautiful light, relaxed ambience and stunning views inspired the fashion feature Creme de la Creme, relaxed knits for the perfect weekend, in classic shades of cream and stone. In keeping with the coastal theme the home section Hamptons Home has nautical style throws, cushions, bunting and a great carry bag for the beach. Top Tanks features sophisticated knits which are perfect to give a touch of class to your holiday wardrobe. In contrast to the pale beauty of the East Coast we have Moroccan Sunset, a collection of knits shot in the sun drenched desert of North Africa, in my earth and people friendly organic Fairtrade yarn Eco Aran. I have also launched a finer version of the aran weight Eco Baby which is soft against a child's skin and therefore perfect for Pure and Simple, four easy knits in summery sorbet shades for toddlers. There are 35 knits, 18 new designs and some of the most popular styles from previous collections plus the regular features and new ones such as a fascinating article on knitting in Elizabethan England." Eco Aran and Eco Baby are both available from Texere as well as Debbie’s classic tweeds for sumptuous wintery knitwear.

The Yarn Book

The Yarn Book

£15.99

Penny Walsh. If you ever wanted to know what a snarl or a gimp is, what the difference between woollen and worsted spinning is or what mercerising and sizing mean then this is the book for you.
Yarns are an integral part of any work done in the field of textiles - whether it be weaving, sewing, dyeing or knitting. The ply, tensile strength, weight, elasticity, water-, heat- and shrink-resistance of yarns all have an important impact on the final result of any work.
In this book Penny Walsh explores yarns, their history, production methods, fibre content and the new advances that are constantly being made.
She also provides practical instructions for making your own threads and yarns, with detailed making sequences and helpful step-by-step illustrations.
The book is illustrated throughout with diagrams and photographs of how yarns are spun, plus images of manufacturing processes and finished yarns and fabrics. Whilst this is a very useful book for anyone wanting to spin their own yarns it is also a fascinating read and an excellent source book for anyone interested in yarns - whether buying, dyeing, weaving or knitting etc - invaluable!

Union Jack Bag Pattern

Union Jack Bag Pattern

£2.00

What better way to show your dedication to British farmers, sheep and yarns than by making a union flag bag?! The red, white and blue really says everything you need it to say, but if you fancy being more individual play around with subtle or wacky colour and texture combinations. Felting is a fun way to transform soft yarns into practical accessories by just throwing them in the washing machine! Texere Troon Tweed is spun in oil, so knits very easily and totally changes when washed. Texere Airedale Aran is softer, without flecks and felts even easier. Try combining the two for unusual textures & effects.
This pattern has two designs included - red-white-blue & Green style bags

Crocheted Bag for Life Pattern

Crocheted Bag for Life Pattern

£1.00

Bin those plastic bags and crochet your own bag that you can carry wherever you go. The bag is crocheted using a fishnet stitch that expands to hold lots of goodies and folds up into a small package that will fit in your handbag. We’ve suggested Texere C4 linen as it’s strong, available in lots of colours and is a brilliant price, although you could use any cotton, linen or bamboo type yarn. You could make a multi-coloured version for a summery beach bag.

Louisa Harding La Salute & La Salute Quattro.

**Discontinued - new lower price: was £4.35 now £3.50**
This is a beautiful Italian kid mohair knitting yarn by Louisa Harding in an irresistable collection of petal like soft colourways. Some shades are single colours and the Quattro range is the variegated version, but I have listed them together so you get the full range.
79% Kid Mohair and 21% Nylon.
The ballband suggests two tension of 4mm needles with a tension of 20 stitches and 28 rows over a 10cm square and 6mm needles with 14 stitches and 20 rows. 105m per ball. This means you can knit the yarn to a chunky pattern or a finer pattern and will either create a dense, cosy fabric or a light, airy fabric from the same yarn.
Gentle hand wash, can be dry cleaned, do not tumble dry, cool iron.
Kid mohair is such a popular yarn at the moment as it has a really long meterage per ball, so goes a very long way and is light and soft to the touch. Perfect for scarves and shawls, cardigans and sweaters.

Candy Stripe - Baby Knitting Wool

**reduced price: was £2.70 - now £2.20**
This is a gloriously soft blend of 80% Courtelle acrylic and 20% nylon yarn for the most delicate skin. This double knitting yarn is in a bright range of colours combinations, making it not only suitable for babies, but for toddlers and young children too. The space-dyed effect saves you having to change colours within a garment and it's also great for blankets and toys. You could add a stripe of Candy to a white garment as an edging or border for a dash of colour! Will knit to most double knitting patterns.

Sirdar Snowball

This is Sirdar's fabulous "Scarf-in-a-ball" concept where one of these lovely big balls will knit a long, luscious scarf in no time at all - the first one I made took about 50 minutes! It's 100% polyester and the yarn is constructed of 4cm long snowballs spaced out evenly with a thinner yarn in between. There is a pattern for a scarf on the back of each ball band with clear instructions and diagrams as to how to complete your project. A finished scarf for an adult would be approx 2m long, but you could make two smaller scarves for children. A scarf made from Snowball is the perfect gift, whether you leave it 'til the last minute to make it or get addicted and make loads of them! There are lots of lovely colours to choose from solid classics, to wacky multi-coloureds. Time to get knitting folks!!

Blossom by Noro

This is a beautiful knitting yarn in a blend of 40% wool, 30% kid mohair, 20% silk and 10% nylon in approx aran weight. The sheer beauty of Noro yarns is that each ball or hank of the multi-coloured yarn is individually dyed to produce a unique palette of subtle shadings and vivid hues. Blossom's colour combinations have a gorgeous depth being made from so many twisted strands. It's full of character and texture, has a gentle drape and is extremely soft to the touch making it a real yarn for the girls!
