WEAVING WITH WEAVING STICKS WITH PAT OSBORNE
06.08.11 MORNING WORKSHOP (10am-12.45pm)

Learn how to weave on hand-held weaving sticks, an old native American craft. These strips of weaving are ideal to use as belts, bag handles and rugs (by joining bands of weaving). Makes lovely matching handles for your hand crafted or felted bags. The pieces are very strong as the weaving is woven on strands of dishcloth or crochet cotton, that form the warp of the weaving. Learn how different yarns give different effects.

£28 (includes instruction sheets, warp cotton & weaving sticks for you to keep).

Please bring a selection of plain or fancy yarns (such as eyelash or chenilles) from your stash to use as weft yarns in your chosen colour scheme, or buy from the millshop on the day. (We also have a box of mixed yarn length to rummage through if you need extra colour/texture).

You'll come away a length of weaving and various samples, plus class notes so you can continue at home.

SIMPLE BRAIDS WITH RUTH GILBERT
06.08.11 AFTERNOON WORKSHOP (1.15pm-4pm)

Make braids, plaits and cords with a variety of yarns, your fingers and simple tools (including a lucet). Familiar and unfamiliar techniques make braids suitable for bookmarks, jewellery and keyrings. Use your braids for unique curtain tie-backs, light pulls, luggage & camera straps, as charms for your USB stick, keyring or phone. These braids don't need expensive equipment so you'll be able to practice your new skills at home by using cereal boxes

£28 (includes instructions, assorted yarns, beads and buttons, keyring clasps and loops).

You'll come away with new skills and ideas and lots of samples. If you have any smooth, colourful yarns in your stash please bring them along to transform into a braid.
